Untitled trapezoidal Ptolemaic woodcut map of North Africa. From the 1541 Vienne (Dauphiné) edition of Ptolemy's Geographia published by Gaspar Trechsel and sold by Hughes de la Porte in Lyon. The maps are cut by Laurence Fries, first published in the 1522 Strasbourg edition. The map is a reduced version of Martin Waldseemuller's similar map of 1513 published in Strassburg. Showing Central North Africa (Algeria, Tunisia and Libya) and several Mediterranean Islands (Malta, Gozo, Sardinia, Lampedusa, Sicily).
Good strong impression in beautiful original colour. Some tears in left margin, repairs on centrefold. Overall very good condition.
